Update with a Bang

Okay....
Since I haven't been updating this blog for a while....
Let's update it with a Bang, shall we ?

Bang !
This is what I found in front of my door this morning

she doesn't do this a lot so...it's kinda cute actually ;p

she knows it's bad coz I called her, well, I yelled at her and she had her tail tucked under, but came anyway, so yea...that makes it kinda cute ;)


Anyway.......Bangs aside,
Reasons for not updating this blog :

1. Fleas
eeewwwwww
I know right, after 10 years of flea-free, seriously, 10 years !!!
We had an outbreak of flea about 2 months ago, or was it 3 ?
I suspect those stray cats out there who brought the fleas, somehow the fleas managed to travel to chika n pochi. But I've been told that cats and dogs have different fleas.
If not the cats, it must be the next door chihuahuas......
Anyway.... I gave em flea baths.
I was reading about fleas online and they say flea eggs can stay on the carpet, mats, whatever for up to a year or so. And they're covered with this waterproof thingy (dunno the correct term ;p) so they'll stay alive even tho you spray them w anti-flea solution.
that got me paranoid, so I vacuumed everything in the house.

Everything is ok now, the girls are flea-less again.
I hope I killed all fleas in the house, no more fleas please.

2. Pochi got sick
Pochi gave us quite a scare when she got sick
At first, we thought she just had a flu coz she was not running and jumping around as much.
and She didn't bark at all, she just kept quiet.
At first we thought she choked on a piece of meat coz I gave her meat the day before and she didn't chew them, just swallow it whole.
She can still run around, but not as much, But then she started walking like she was tipsy and kinda collapsed , not fainted, just really weak.
We thought she's tired from running around, so I gave her vitamin C.
She was still eating well, but just weak
The next day she was still weak and could only walk a bit, like she was drunk and fell flat on the floor again, and when she opened her mouth, we could she that she was very very pale.
Her tongue was kinda grey !!!!

So we rushed her to the only nearby vet. (a stupid vet I might add, read on)
The vet took a quick look at the inside of her hear and was surprised that it was very pale.
Then she looked at pochi's gum and tongue, pale pale pale
She said this could be fatal, we got more worried.
She gave her injection, probably Vitamin C
Took her blood sample for a blood test.
and prescribed some Anemia syrup and some pills, I forgot what they were.
I asked whether pochi needed a blood transfusion considering she's really pale and the vet's prescribing her anemia syrup.
Stupid Vet responded, the blood may not be a match, no further explanation.
and told us there's nothing she could do and told us to give pochi her meds and see how pochi does in a few days.
Until today we never got pochi's bloodtest result, Stupid vet said she doesn't have a fax machine at her clinic and will send us the result from her fax at home the next day. She never did.

So the very next day, early morning, we went to another Vet at this 24 hour pet clinic.
Luckily the Head of the Vet was the one who examined pochi.
The vet wasn't even supposed to be there that day, we were lucky, she had the most experience among all the other vets there, we'll call her Smart Vet.
Smart Vet was also shocked seeing pochi very very pale.
Took her blood sample, pochi was weak but was angry coz the vet and her assistant was poking needle at her, so she started growling and tried to bite them. Pochi's a feisty thug :)
But she doesn't really bite bite, she's only scaring them.
Smart Vet started pochi on an IV asap and will do a blood transfusion the next day.
She told us we could lose her, I started crying, a bit ;p

Smart vet then explained to us that dogs have 12 blood types
(or was it 13 ?) I wasn't really focus at that time.
and she has donors from healthy golden retrievers, but since she doesn't have a machine to exactly match the blood, she had to to it the old-school way, mixing the blood manually and see if they don't clot, then it's a match.
Anyway... pochi got her blood transfusion, once only coz apparently dogs can only have 1 blood transfusion every once in a while.
We visited her at the clinic and she was getting better by the day.

Long story short, pochi was at the vet for 2 weeks, then we still have to give her meds for another month. One meds was called Sandimune, it's a liquid that we need to give her in very little amount, it's an immunosupressor, so pochi's system won't fight the new blood and so that pochi's immune system won't attack her blood cells.
The vet diagnosed it was :
Acute Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia
which can be very fatal
Smart Vet said Autoimmune Hemolytic Anema could come back, and if it did, we have to rush her back to the clinic for another blood transfusion.

Pochi is fine now, I was looking at the internet for that condition and some people've lost their dogs in a matter of days, so I was lucky, but some dogs who were diagnosed with that condition have to stay on meds for life.

Pochi is very healthy now, and the vet doesn't prescribed further meds, so probably it's not really Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia ? I'm hoping the smart vet was wrong in her diagnosis and it's gonna be a one time thing, Please let be that one time thing.

Anyway........
pochi is back chewing chika's ear and running away with socks and jumping up and down now
So peace and happiness and chaos is restored here :)
I'm just so relieved.

Here she is on a bed that's not hers
actually it's a cushion for this big rattan chair that grandmomo's making the cushion cover for.
Pochi instantly made herself comfortable on it ;)



Important :
If your dog isn't barking, it may be a sign something's wrong.
Check your dog's inner ear, gum, tongue !!! It's supposed to be a healthy rosy color.
Check now to see it's healthy natural color so you'll notice it if it's not pink enough.
If it's pale pale pale, it's a bad sign
Go to a Smart Vet ASAP !!!
Don't go to a Stupid Vet !!!

Food time

Since Chika's got tumor, chi chi stopped using commercial dogfood and started feeding the girls homemade food instead.
Chika's doing really well now and We hope the tumor stop growing and Chika will have a long and healthy happy life with us :)
This is boiled chayote and carrot and chicken.

Chika's scared of the Rain

It's been raining almost everyday now...
and everytime it rains, with or without thunderstorm
Chika got scared...

(while pochi on the other hand, will still run around trying to steal socks)
Chika goes into this "wary" mode, where she's very careful & also scared... she'd tuck her tail under and she'd squeeze in next to you....

The one on the left , we bought from the vet, made in sweden

the one on the right, we bought from a petshop, made in china

So, the one on the left is made in sweden, we got it from the vet who offered if we wanted to just take it coz we'd need it at home.

it was made with one plastic sheet, quite a simple-clever design i should say,

and it costs us around us $ 5

at home we found out that some of it has chew marks...

so other dogs must've used it before and somehow got it out and chewed on it....

not chika, coz even chewing soft chewy treats takes her a long long long long long time now.

anyhow... it was kinda hard putting this particular e-collar because the plastic thingy has to be inserted to secure the e-collar in place.

in addition to that, a plastic rope/string has to be secured around her neck, otherwise chika would just 'escaped' her e-collar,

of course we wouldn't wanna choke her, so we gave her enough room around the neck.

in short, a lot of work !!!

So we went to a pet shop again....

looked for an e-collar

made in china, cost us only around US $2

it had velcro..... yippieee....

the thing only took us 2 seconds to put around chika's neck...

so........ there.....

get an e-collar with velcro, it makes life so much easier.

One thing to note is dat you should really trim your dog's hair before a surgery

hohhoho... because chika is kinda too hairy now

But it all works, coz the hair acts as a section divider for the velcro, so the shirt stays put :)

But looks like the e-collar's making her uncomfy when sleeping though.

poor thing....

Chika is Usmy ?

We decided to put a shirt on Chika....

so the stitches doesn't get in contact with the floor



So we went to a petshop and there were red shirts, pink shirts, girly girl shirt, even dresses and we saw a bumblebee outfit dat we wanted to put on pochi so much. it has wingssss !!!! and a hoodie !!!
*focus chi, focus*

So... we came across this dark green shirt...
Perfect... coz we need to apply betadine (iodine solution) and a special creme from the vet, twice a day, so any stain won't really show.

Grandmomo had to modify the shirt a bit
so chika didn't have to put the shirt on from her neck....

So Miss Usmy can be comfy with the shirt.
wait ??? usmy ?? who's usmy ? (read: oos-mee)

Well.. the dark green shirt has U.S Army written on it....so when grandmomo modified the shirt, all that's left is Usmy hoho

Chika back at Home

So.... this is Miss Chika with her e-collar on

she sits next to you and position her back right where your foot is

the operation went well...

I haven't updated this blog in such a long time

hohoho... but timeline is not important here :)

All dat matters is dat I'm spending a lot of time with chika and dat one *points to poronchi*

Anyway, here's a pic of chika 2 days after surgery....

the vet adviced us not to bring her home just yet....

Chika was soooooo happy to see us *chichi n grandmomo*
we had to tell her to calm down and not jump up n down so much.

but we felt really bad when we had to leave her behind....

I wanted to come and visit chika too.

Chika

Chika will undergo surgery this Saturday.

she happens to have mammary tumor.

She is still very active,

always jumping and running around

and eats a lot too :)

The thing is, chika's 9 years old

and chi's really worried, she's been crying.

chika : Don't worry chi, I'll be allright :) *smiles*

Falso Alarmo

It's not Airborne
nor Touching-borne

Neither one of the two canines, ie. Chika & poch, is contaminated with Evil Mutant Rat
None of them, *me and housekeeper included* has turned into a Mutant.
Their eyes turned green for a short while (hence the photo evident) , which has me worried, but it turned out to be just greed.
but I strongly suspect that Poch is a Mutant in Disguise

Rats

Chika had an encounter with a RAT today !!!!

yes a RAT !!!! a giant one I might add , a GIANT RAT !!

Remember Chika ?
aka pupu, pupu purumpu, purum, chirinka phirinka
bad breath still lingers with dat one , but less farting now.

the RAT was in our frontyard and somehow it was kinda slow
and it befriended Chika, Nooo nooo... dat wasn't what happened
Chika was kinda confused and excited at the same time
approaching the non moving RAT
(yes it was alive !!)
and trying to pat the RAT's head with her paw and licks the RAT.
CHIKAAA !!!! Did you just lick the RATTT ??
YUCKKKKKK !!!!!! dat's so DISGUSTING PUPU !!!!!!!!!!!!

*sista interrupts*
huh ?, what sista ? I saw wrong ? no licking involved in the incident ? ok, copy dat *phew*

and somehow the RAT leaps leaps trying to escape and hides under the car.
and GUESS WHAT ???
Chika followed it !!!!!!!
And I'm frantically calling out chika's name so dat she could move away from the RAT
They're full of germs and all things yucky.
But there were a moment under the car where they were both sitting close by and just looking at each other, with the RAT's eyes so big and cute,
and I was like, DANGGGG WHERE'S MY CAMERA !!!!!!!!
here mousey mouse ....
but then I got back to reality and start yelling Chika's name again

Even tried to splash a bucket of water at them, (well, more like thinking of throwing the bucket along with the water towards them) But somehow when Chika heard the splashing and dragging of bucket, she approached me, happily, *talk about weirds and whys*. And so I snatched her and brought her inside the house.
Wipe her mouth and paws with Dettol + water solutions and put her into QUARANTINE
yesss QUARANTINE !!!!

And somehow housekeeper manages to catch the RAT
it involves brooms and loud voices, but wasn't as frantic as I expected, the RAT was kinda tired I guess.
So... finally PEACE is restored !!

This is Mamma Chika, Fullname : Chirinka Pirinka, Alias : chikapoo / pupu purumpu (read: poopoo pooroompoo). Is she Thai ? Well, she could be. My 8 year old toy poodle with bad breadth who recently starts farting everywhere she goes. She gets angry when Pochi's munching on her ears.

She's stylish too !
